Join Here, Babe!
Hello, my beautiful Bariatric Babe!

First off, I just want to say this: you are capable, you are worthy, you are so incredibly brave, and I am so very proud of you.

You have already taken the biggest leap of faith—you had weight loss surgery and made it to the “losers bench”. You’ve invested in yourself in a BIG way, babe. Not many people choose to step up and show up for themselves in the ways you have.

I know how much this weight loss surgery journey means to you. It means everything to me too. And this decision takes SO much work. Real blood, sweat, and tears—and anyone who judges you and says that you’re taking the “easy way out” doesn’t have a clue what they’re saying.

But you’re still struggling most days…

You try so hard to process everything and sort through the daily struggles. Between the food tracking, feeling restricted, not knowing how to plan your workouts and, most importantly, feeling so alone—it’s no wonder you’re feeling lost and overwhelmed.

You’re starting to really worry. Thinking about those couple extra bites after each meal—thinking you could stretch your stomach— is scaring the hell out of you. And as the old habits creep back in, the detrimental thoughts do too…

“I feel like I’ve tried everything and I’m going to fail again.”

No babe, you won’t. The simple fact that you’re reading this shows that you aren’t failing.

You only fail when you stop trying.

I’m Jamie, some of you may know me as The Sleeved Dietitian. And to answer your first question YES I’m a Registered Dietitian who also has had weight loss surgery! A dietitian who struggles with food and her weight? Kind of sounds contradictory, doesn’t it?

Anyways, I had VSG in 2017. Since then I lost 112lbs and I’ve maintained 95-100 lbs of that initial loss for almost 2 years now, which I like to think is pretty cool!

Even though I’m a dietitian, I struggled my WHOLE life with my weight. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 14 and was over 200lbs by the time I was 9.

I remember when I was deciding to have my surgery I felt so scared and overwhelmed. It was crazy to me actually, how little support there was both before and after my surgery. I felt so alone.

I also remember thinking, as I was handed a binder filled with post op nutrition guidelines “Gosh, this is so overwhelming and frustrating! I have my degree in nutrition and this is hard to wrap my head around. How the heck do people who don’t have the education I’ve had make this work?

I soon realized how little support there was for people in the bariatric community. I just wished there was somewhere I could go to get the nutrition support I needed, have my workouts planned for me, work through my emotional eating, and connect with other people who genuinely cared (unlike all the Facebook support groups I eventually left).

And that's how the T.R.I.B.E. was born! The T.R.I.B.E. is for anyone on their WLS journey and literally everything you could ever need for guidance and support! We are a community lead by bariatric patients, so trust me when I say, we get it. We know the struggle. And we are so excited to welcome you to our T.R.I.B.E.

What people are saying about the T.R.I.B.E.

What if you could wake up in the morning feeling confident, feel empowered in your food choices, and have no fear of gaining the weight back?

Imagine if you could:
  • Eat well-balanced meals each day that keep you full AND satisfied without restricting the foods you love.
  • Create epic, long-lasting changes in your habits so you can keep the weight off long term.
  • Let go of the guilt you feel every day when you aren’t “perfect” with your eating.
  • Improve your relationship with food so you never feel guilty about anything you eat.
  • Move your body your way, and work out without the pressure of “going hard or going home”.
  • Live a life that isn’t centered around counting macros or numbers.
  • Join a community of amazing women, those who identify as women, and nonbinary/non-gender conforming people who’ve all had surgery—one where we cheer each other on and lift each other up.

“What if I’m pre-op, 4 months post-op, or 4 years post-op? Is the T.RI.B.E. a good fit for me?”

YES, and here’s why: no matter where you are in your journey, you deserve the support and resources from people who just get it.
Because there are so many things people don’t tell you about post-op life. For starters: we’re not supposed to keep up this post-op diet forever, and that misconception feeds our feelings of failure.

But you know what, babe? It’s okay to have carbs! It’s possible to go out to restaurants with your friends AND order with confidence. It’s possible to not feel guilty anymore for not being “perfect”. And a life where you don’t fear failure is so much closer than you think.

If you’re struggling with regain post-op, or you’re worried about making these habits stick long term to be successful, what are you waiting for?

Join Here, Babe!

The T.R.I.B.E. Membership:

The Real Insights of Bariatric Eating

The T.R.I.B.E. Membership was created to provide you with a community of women, those who identify as women, and nonbinary/non-gender conforming people (our TRIBE, if you will) who are all on their weight loss surgery journeys. All of the T.R.I.B.E. leaders have had weight loss surgery, and are going through exactly what you are going through right now, or might go through soon.

We the T.R.I.B.E. are a community that gives ongoing support, encouraging you to reach your goals and truly change your habits with all the resources you need to set you up for success. And yes, you really can change your habits for good so you don’t have to worry about going back to “the old ways”.

You won’t have to worry about giving up your favorite foods or carbs again. You can ditch the anxiety from when your RD told you that you could only have a thousand calories, among all the other strict rules.
You won’t have to track your food to feel successful, or worry about feeling exhausted and burnt out. You’ll feel relieved because FINALLY, you have a support system of babes that understand your limits when you go out to eat.

Wouldn’t it be amazing to leave the frustrations of your protein-only diet behind, and instead feel satisfied with healthy, well-rounded plates that don’t leave you deprived?

When you join the T.R.I.B.E. Membership, you will learn the exact steps you need to take to change your eating habits, understand how to build filling and satisfying plates that meet your individual needs, and get closer to reaching all your goals.

Anna is our Australia-based Counselling Psychologist in the T.R.I.B.E. She has spent her career specialising in addiction and trauma, and is currently completing her Masters in Addictive Behaviour. Anna had her VSG surgery in 2018, and is passionate about helping other WLS babes like YOU heal and rebuild your relationship with food, so you can have a healthier mindset and lifestyle. Need a supportive sisterhood? Anna leads emotional eating and body dysmorphia support groups in the T.R.I.B.E.

Melanie “Mel” Tocco
Disney fanatic. Mama-to-2. Cheese lover.

@vsg_mawma

This Certified Postpartum Doula not only has her Health Coaching Certification, but she’s also an Accountability Coach in the T.R.I.B.E. If you’re in need of a pick me up and someone to tell you how much you’re KILLING IT, Mel’s your girl! After 3-months post VSG operation, Mel began working with Jamie 1:1. Since then, she has lost 160 lbs and gained lifelong friends. Are you pre-op, post-op, or a bariatric momma? Well, say hello to your support group leader!

Marissa Stewart
Coffee loving, Peloton riding, BOSS Babe Attorney.

@rissycup21

Calling all organization-obsessed bariatric babes: meet your busy bee Accountability Coach. Marissa worked 1:1 with Jamie for a year after her 2017 VSG surgery—she has now MASTERED Jamie's Bariatric Meal Plate Method and has learned to trust herself and her body. In need of support while balancing your busy days with bariatric life? Marissa leads a support group for busy BOSS babes, our Saturday morning coffee date support group, and many others. Don’t be shy—reach out and say hi!

Melissa De Los Santos
Yo hablo español, babe!

@mdtherd

Weight and food relationship struggles are all too familiar to this soon-to-be Ph.D. Columbia University graduate. Melissa’s studies focus on fueling for exercise, and the motivators and barriers to post-op exercise. Although Melissa hasn’t had WLS, she’s a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and is very passionate about helping other babes who struggle with their weight. She leads our regain support group; and without Melissa, our support group on maintaining your culture after weight loss surgery wouldn’t be possible. If you need help understanding nutrition, support to reach your goals, or need a fellow Spanish-speaking WLS sister, Melissa’s got your back.

Maria Beller
Therapist, MH advocate, pet mama.

@sleevednsleeveless

This Gossip Girl fan is a Licensed Social Worker based out of New York, who had VSG surgery in May 2019. She’s passionate and transparent about her PCOS strugggles, life after WLS, and normalizes mental health and self care. Maria’s relationship with food was a rough one; but after working 1:1 with Jamie, it has changed to a much healthier relationship. Maria started her weight loss journey at 400+ lbs., and has lost and maintained 110+ lbs. since her VSG surgery. Be on the lookout for her as she leads our PCOS, “feelin’ myself”, and mindfulness support groups.

Samantha Wilson
Lover of traveling, reading, photography and art history.

@foxxytoy

Samantha’s just happy to be here—her words! This journey hasn’t been easy for Samantha; after her VSG surgery in December 2016, Sam’s lack of resources held her back from creating good habits and forming the perfect bariatric plate. After working 1:1 with Jamie for over a year, she has mastered Jamie's journaling method, eats veggies and ROCKS the food scale. Sam leads our Sunday morning support group and our bariatric book club (book nerds, unite!), and loves to share her story to help other babes succeed.

Briana Kaplan
Loves cats, Costco, and couponing.

@cleanslateplate

Briana had her VSG surgery in April 2021, and is enjoying life as a “clean slate”. Everyday she’s learning new things about her mind and body, and is so grateful to Jamie and this incredible program. The wealth of resources, support by the other leaders and T.R.I.B.E. members, and putting in the work has led to fantastic results for Bri. Now, she can help members in the newly post-op and pre-op support groups achieve the same results. Wondering where you can find Bri off-screen? You can catch her making magic at Disney World or supporting local arts in Central Florida on weekends.

Samantha Sweets
It’s not just a convenient last name.

@_ms_sweets_

Try not to get this sweet mother of 5 confused with wonder woman Wilson. Samantha had VSG surgery in October 2020 and joined the T.R.I.B.E. in November 2020 (talk about a loyal bariatric babe!). She has been an active T.R.I.B.E. member since day one, so who better to lead motivation support groups than someone who has been through it? Sam loves sharing her story with others in the WLS community, and is discovering other ways she can help this community.

Mikayla Garvin
A rightly self-proclaimed success.

@wls.mombod

Mikayla struggled with her weight in high school, and wanted to improve her future. She had gastric bypass RNY in March 2013, but WLS was seen differently back then. The support groups were filled with mostly older women, those who identify as women, and nonbinary/non-gender conforming people that couldn’t relate to her circumstances; and in her personal life, Mikayla only had one person as a support system. She made choices that didn’t support her overall goal, but she’s learning from that. She’s lost 150 pounds at the most, and has regained 50 pounds since having her 2 adorable post-op babies. Now, Mikayla leads our Momma support group, and our support group for bariatric babes 5+ years post-op.

The T.R.I.B.E. is your one-stop-shop for resources, community, and support after weight loss surgery. Everything in the membership will give you the tools to succeed, and the support to feel empowered—all you have to do is show up and put in the work!

This isn’t a substitute for your surgeon’s guidelines—the T.R.I.B.E. is a supplemental resource to assist you in achieving your goals. And there is no other membership out there that gives you the resources, support system, and accountability that the T.R.I.B.E. offers.

I know these resources—combined with the live support—work to help you hit your goals, because everything in the T.R.I.B.E has worked for me and my fellow T.RI.B.E. leaders.

It took me a long time to find what worked for me, and even longer to not feel like I was going to fail my WLS. It wasn’t until I had my tight-knit tribe supporting me that I really felt like I could succeed.

I, along with my fellow T.R.I.B.E. leaders, are all certified professionals that have been through weight loss surgery and the post-op struggles. We know what you’re going through, or what’s waiting for you after surgery—and I’m here to tell you that with the right resources and work, your dream bariatric life is within reach! Just look at what these babes had to say:
I ended up joining the T.R.I.B.E. program when I was just 3 months post op because I wanted to arm myself with all the information I needed to be successful and get support right away. Since joining I have achieved all my goals and have gone beyond where I thought I would be. Now being further post op I am looking for help navigating nutrition long term post op. I would recommend Jamie and this program to anyone on their WLS journey. It’s been incredible.”

Now let me guess, I’m sure you’re probably thinking…

  • “Oh great, another diet plan that’s not going to work for me. I don’t want to start something just to fail at it again.”
  • “Ugh, here comes another dietitian to scold me for my food choices. My RD at my bariatric center was so discouraging—is this going to be the same thing?”
  • “I know in my heart I can’t do this alone anymore. I’m so scared I’m going to gain all my weight back if I don’t do something.”

  • “I’m scared of investing more time and money into something new again. I’ve already tried every diet under the sun, is this really going to be what I need this time?”

Good news: it’s totally OKAY to be hesitant to try something new and have these questions.

I’m so happy to give you these resources, babe—I wish I had all of them when I started my WLS journey.

Because this isn’t just any membership: the T.R.I.B.E. is a resource hub for all bariatric patients to succeed in keeping the weight off and create a healthy relationship with food.

In the T.R.I.B.E., you have a safe space and the support to keep you accountable as you put in the work to achieve your dream life. It won’t be easy, but it will be worthwhile. And these babes agree:
I joined the T.R.I.B.E. when I was a couple months post-op because I found I wasn't getting the post-op support from my surgeon that I wanted. While the surgery was great and my medical care was awesome, the emotional support and food support wasn't there. The T.R.I.B.E. has been tremendously helpful in (a) keeping me on track (I've lost 35" and 15+ BMI points since joining, in keeping with my post-op expectations) and (b) providing a supportive and encouraging community of other individuals dealing with the same. I would highly recommend the T.R.I.B.E. (and Jamie!) to others, as it's the best tool in my bariatric toolkit!”

- Dannie, T.R.I.B.E. Member since April 2021

I was hesitant to join the T.R.I.B.E. at first because I thought that it was more money than I wanted to spend compared to a copay at the doctors office. I think that what changed for me is knowing that the doctor's office was a one and done deal and I figured I would sign up for one month of the T.R.I.B.E. and see what I thought since I didn’t have to commit to any specific time. I decided I was worth it and I went through all the work to have surgery so I am worth battling this regain. I love that everyone in the T.R.IB.E. has walked the walk and can truly relate to bariatric patients - both pre-op and post-op. I joined because I wanted to get the right support and help with knocking off my regain. I am a work in progress but I have hope and I am starting to notice a slight shift in my mindset. This is such a supportive group and fun! There’s lots of support which really hits a lot of areas where I can use some support. I have also become friends with some of the members outside of just the chat and support group calls. The support here is better than anywhere else. Lots of people offering suggestions, empathy etc. It’s a breath of fresh air to find people who really can relate to your struggles and are open and honest about them - including T.R.I.B.E. leaders. I’m so satisfied with the support and support groups. Also tons of materials to help. I no longer feel hopeless and like a failure. While I have a way to go I feel like I will actually get back on track. I would recommend the T.R.I.B.E. to anyone—and for anyone hesitant to join, I would tell them, even if you join for just one month, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”
